Land O’ Lakes coach Brian Wachtel confirmed in a text message to the Tampa Tribune on Monday morning that TE Kent Taylor has a broken bone in his left hand and the team is awaiting his status for the Gators’ season opener at Zephyrhills on Friday. When reached by phone at 2:30 Monday afternoon, Taylor told the Tribune he still hadn’t been updated on the extent of the injury.
“I haven’t heard anything yet, so I’m just waiting around like everyone else,” Taylor said.
“Xrays confirmed Kent did break a bone in hand. We are awaiting results from an appointment on his status,” Wachtel’s text stated earlier.
Taylor, the nation’s No. 1-rated tight end in the country according to Rivals.com, said on Facebook Sunday night he had broke his hand during the Gators 36-0 win over Anclote on Friday.
Taylor had three catches for 67 yards including a 43-yard catch-and-run TD and, also according to his Facebook, broke his hand making a block.
Taylor, who says he will pick from Alabama, Florida, Georgia or Penn State as to where he will play college football, had 35 catches for 571 yards and nine TD in 2010.

Imagine wining a preseason scrimmage by 36 points in the fourth quarter and you are still playing Kent Taylor the no. 1 tight end in the nation according to Rivals. Even more amazing Taylor got hurt in the last play of the game. Maybe our coach was thinking Taylor, needed some extra playing time. Or perhaps he thought scoring another TD against hapless Anclote would give us all pride.
This is just one example of a number of bone headed moves made by our coach. Perhaps the most outrageous is the fact that he plays most of the team on both offense and defense. Our coach is so green that he does not know that you don’t win football games in the fourth quarter against good teams when most of your team goes both ways. Pathetic.

How about the other players that busted their butt’s at two-a-days and didn’t get in. I understand that some games will be tight and the back ups wont get in but in a pre-season game everyone should get an honest look. Sunlake got their back ups in the game. And don’t even think about talking to this coach. The other one wouldn’t stop talking and this one won’t even be bothered.
