Land O’ Lakes quarterback Stephen Weatherford has given a verbal commitment to the University of South Florida.
The younger brother of former Florida State QB Drew Weatherford, has been a highly sought after player. He’s already received written offers from the University of Cincinnati, the University of Southern Mississippi, Southern Methodist University, Boston College, East Carolina University, Iowa State and North Texas in addition to USF.
This past season, Weatherford, recently named The Tampa Tribune’s football Athlete of the Year for Pasco County, completed 128 of 206 passes for 2,052 yards, 27 TDs and 5 interceptions. His sophomore season, his first full season as a starter, he completed 94 of 158 passes for 1,254 yards, 10 TDs and seven picks. As a freshman, Weatherford completed 49 of 91 passes for 648 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions.

Scott, would you say he is more typical of the kind of QB that Holtz prefers, style-wise? How does he compare to Daniels?

Dan, from what I know of Weatherford, he is more of your classic drop-back passer. Definitely not the athlete Daniels is, but a more “traditional’’ QB with some impressive ability at this stage of his career.

I heard that, too. I think that’s Holtz’ preferred style of QB - is that what he had at his last school?

Holtz’s QB at East Carolina last year, Patrick Pinkney, was an athletic drop-back passer…threw for almost 3,000 yards, but he could run when he had to.
