The Land O’ Lakes athletic department is still working on Labor Day, as Gators athletic director Karen Coss announced in a press release Monday morning that long-time JV coach John Clapp has been promoted to the varsity position.
“John has built a great relationship with the girls while teaching them the game,” Coss said in the release.
Clapp has been the junior varsity coach for the last nine years and is also the Gators girls golf coach, a position he took over in August.
Clapp is replacing Jamie Martin, who resigned her softball position a couple of weeks ago, but remains the girls’ weightlifting coach.
Clapp will have his work cut out for him, as he looks to return the Gators to winning ways. Land O’ Lakes was just 4-16 last season, while the Gators are 17-26 in the past two seasons.
