In honor of the return of prodigal son, Lastings Milledge, and the announcement of the Pittsburgh Pirate’s new minor league affiliate, the Lakewood Ranch community will hold a celebration on December 15 along Main Street.
The Pirates will unveil the new name and logo of their Florida State League affiliate during the celebration that will include appearances by current players and officials.
This year’s spring training in Bradenton will be a homecoming for Milledge, who was born in Palmetto and led the Lakewood Ranch High baseball team to the 2003 5A state title before being drafted by the New York Mets. Milledge was acquired by the Pirates in June of 2009 from the Washington Nationals.
Season tickets for spring training and the FSL season will also be on sale.
