Here is what the Rays are about to gain and lose now that John Lackey is a Red Sox and Roy Halladay appears headed to Philly.
The Rays finally solved Halladay over the last two seasons, beating the soon-to-be former Blue Jays ace seven times in 11 starts.
Halladay has a 12-11 lifetime record against the Rays with a 3.67 ERA in 34 games/31 starts. But Doc’s record took a hit during the 2008 and 2009 seasons when he was 4-7 against the Rays, including 1-4 this past season.
So, maybe the Rays aren’t so glad to see Halladay leave the AL East.
Now Lackey is another story.
Not only does he join a rotation with Jon Lester and Josh Beckett, but the former Angel has a 9-2 record in 12 career starts against Tampa Bay. Two of those wins were shutouts.
Lackey is 2-2 with a 6.75 ERA at the Trop, so the Rays have that going for them.
