A lot has been said about the potential of Robinson’s offense this season and the amount of playmakers on that side of the ball. Through the first three games, though, it’s been the Knights’ defense that has led the charge in Robinson’s 3-0 start.
Robinson’s 47-0 victory over Middleton last Friday was the Knights’ second shutout in three games, joining a 27-0 win over Leto in the regular-season opener. It is the first time since 2004 the Knights have had multiple shutouts in a season.
The strength of the Knights 3-4 defense has been in the middle with the team’s linebacker corps. Robinson coach Mike DePue praised the efforts of middle linebackers Cameron Arnold and John Carter, who go by the nickname “Bash Brothers,” through the first two weeks. Against the Tigers, outside linebacker Tevin Newman stepped up his game and finished with a team-best nine tackles and a half sack.
“He had the biggest game of his life,” DePue said of Newman. “He was a force to be reckoned with. He was just all over the place.”
Newman (27 tackles), Carter (23) and Arnold (20) rank as the Knights’ top three tacklers this season.
