Kiffin Staying With Bucs

Posted Jan 18, 2008 by Roy Cummings

You can stop worrying about losing Monte Kiffin to another team.

Kiffin has agreed to terms on a new contract with the Bucs that will probably pay in the area of $2 million a year for at least the next two years.

News of the agreement came despite reports claiming the Bucs had lowballed Kiffin on a contract offer. However, Kiffin’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, told the Tribune that those reports were inaccurate.

‘‘That’s not true,’’ Sexton said. ‘‘We should have something on it in a day or so.’‘

The agreement came at a time when Kiffin also was being pursued by the Atlanta Falcons. Kiffin was in line to become the Falcons’ defensive coordinator had Pete Carroll accepted Atlanta’s head coaching job. Even after Carroll declied that position, the Falcons remained interested in Kiffin and were contemplating signing him before hiring a head coach.

I sure wouldn’t want to lose Monty to another team but why in the world would’nt an owner persue him for a head coaching job, I don’t get that at all.

Keep up the good work Bruce, now how about a number 1 wide out, and give Graham a big pay raise.

Wade is right.  This is the biggest offseason move the Bucs could make. But it’s only going to work if Allen gets Monty some D-linemen that can get to the quarterback. Gaines and White are an upgrade, but it’s not enough.

This defense doesn’t work without a better pass rush.

He could have been a head coach years ago but he chose to stay with us again. Thank the football gods. Now lets get a decent deal done for Earnest Graham.

Notice how people are euphoric about keeping KIFFIN.  They know that without him, the Bucs are doomed.  What does that tell you about Gruden?

Chuck from Largo is quite correct. If the Buccaneers don’t find better quality interior DL’s, it seriously limits what Kiffin can accomplish as a playoff quality defense.
Gruden’s offense has had what…four drafts in a row before last years. Give Kiffin a second infusion of youg talent and this defense will be solid once again!
Go Bucs!!

It’s About time, BUT, the Bucs MUST use free agency to get a BIG VETERAN UNDER TACKLE TO apply pressure to opposing QB’s. We need to keep Jeremiah Trotter. He deserves a chance. OTHER NEEDS: Earnest Graham needs a pay raise & learn how to utilize Graham & Bennett with the cadillac still in the shop. We need a big time WR to replace the always ailing Joey Galloway. Chad Johnson; A perennial WR would open up the running game more & allow Gruden’s double tight end tandem of Jeremy Stevens & Alex Smith to shine. Congrats Bucs on a much better season from 2006 to 2007, but we still have a ways to go. Gruden’s offense must continue to score & Monte’s defense must blitz more. I’m ready for 2008, are you?

Where does Jeremiah Trotter deserve a chance to play exactly? Who are we gonna bench to put his old ##### on the field. He was brought in as a locker room presence, thats it.

Hey Cody in the Cornfield, Trotter played possessed in the Panther game. He had double digit tackles & was all over the field. He at least deserves much more playing time than Ryan Nece. I also think he’s as good as Cato June. Give him a chance.

Under Gruden, The The bucs won the division in ‘05 because they were last place in ‘04.  In ‘06 they finished last because they had a first place team’s schedule (thanksgiving, monday, primetimers) which is OK, remember when we had two monday nighters a year?  There hasn’t been one in Tampa since ‘03.  The bucs will have a first place team’s schedule, lets see how it goes.  History has taught us it won’t be good.

Here is how the draft shoud work.Trade down some to get a extra 2nd round pick.Get either Hardy for Ind. or Jackson form Cal. or even Sweed fom Texas for WR. get Charles from Texas at RB. and Colt at QB for future.Try and sign Moss in Free Agency.Get the cener from Saints and the Bucs will look great for now and future.Go Bucs!

Not even going to argue football with you Charles. Your obviously much smarter than me on that subject since I live in Iowa where everybody is a moron.
What the f##k does where I live have to do with anything?

Now, now Mr. Hawkeye/Cyclone Man, I presume. I never said anything negative about Iowa. The expletives are also not necessary. I’m glad to see Bucco’s from afar. I’m a 31 year season ticket holder. I’ve only missed 4 home games in history. I’m very passionate about OUR team. I also not a big Gruden supporter, but I’m willing to let him stay the course for now. He, Bruce A, & our scout staff did an awesome job with last year’s draft & free agency. 2008 will be the make or break year; another 1st place schedule is upon us & we must improve. Keep rootin for TB from the upper mid-west.

That a boy Cody,it’s about time somebody put old man charlie in his place. These florida boys think that out of state fans do not know anything about football(although i’m a fla. boy myself).JUST KIDDING CHARLES-but Cody Charles do have a point about Trotter, that guy can hit anybody-get rid of Nece or June,June can’t play the run.If you want to get rid of someone get rid of one of the four QB’s we have.

Guys, I am also an out-of-state Buc fan, altho I lived in Lakeland for 40 years and just moved to N.C. 2 years ago.  I like Trotter also, but guys, he is a middle linebacker and our middle linebacker is Barret Ruud!  Trotter is too slow to play middle lb for us as the mlb has to cover the middle of the field.  Nece and June play slb, and Nece only played because June was hurt.  June has much more range than Trotter, but I agree he misses WAY too many tackles.
Also, Trotter played a great 1st half for us, but really dropped off in the 2nd half.

I’ve got nothing against Trotter guys. I just don’t think he fits the scheme. He was an absolute beast for the Eagles and I hated playing against him but he wasn’t asked to do the same things in Philly as he is asked to do in Tampa.
