TAMPA - Tampa Bay is currently one of five teams interested in Detroit free agent RB Kevin Jones.
Jones is recovering from knee surgery he had five months ago and recently Miami, Green Bay, Pittsburgh and Detroit reportedly sent representatives to watch him workout on Monday in Saline, Mich. Tampa Bay was not one of the teams in attendance.
Currently Jones is training in Arizona and preparing for this season.
Last year, Jones missed the first two games as he recovered from a foot injury that also sidelined him for the last three games of 2006. He ran for at least 70 yards in five games, including a season-high 105 against Chicago, before hurting his knee Dec. 23 against the Chiefs. He finished with 153 carries for 581 yards and eight touchdowns in 13 games. A few months after the season, Detroit released him.
So far, Tampa Bay has not offered Jones a contract, but are keeping tabs on his progress. It is highly questionable if Tampa Bay would actually sign Jones after recently giving RB Earnest Graham a contract extension, resigning Michael Bennett, acquiring Warrick Dunn, plus the possibility of Cadillac Williams returning this year. The Bucs could just be gauging Jones’ health for now and the running back will likely not sign until the end of July, when teams start training camp.

Favre…one of my favorite QBs to ever play the game. He’s not the “smartest” QB in the world, but he’s a warrior and has all the physical tools you could want. That said…RETIRE!!! Actually…stay retired!!!
I would have loved for this to happen 3 years ago. I would have even loved it last season. Now…not so much. Tampa already has an old QB who brings consistency and reliability to the offense. We don’t need to bring in another one. as much as I think Favre makes us better…it only lasts for as long as he wants to play - which might be only 1 more year. If that happens, we lose him AND Garcia. Then we’re in panic mode looking for the “next” guy.

Todd, if Favre is an old man, well I’m ancient. So be nice to the elderly. To get the Favre rumor going, you have to fuel it, more people have to fuel it, blog about it. But not just here. Send the rumor to the sports writers at ESPN, NFL.com, Yahoo, MSN, Fox, etc. Just start askig the question of “Is this true? or Have you heard?”. Send to guys like Michael Silver, Peter King, etc. Perception is reality and if this thing gets going, eventually Favre will hear it, Allen will hear it, and who knows? This may already be happening though and it’s just getting figured out. Why would Favre want to go to Chicago? Minnesota is good, but still cold. People that think of retirement think of warm climates. OK, fuel the fire son. I’ll help.

Wish I were INTERSTED in Tampa instead of INTERESTED. Good job people!
Any openings for an editor?

BRETT FAVRE GO GET-HIM BUCS !!!!!!!!!!! LETS MAKE THIS HAPPEN PLEASE. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME TO SEE HIM BACK THERE. I THINK I’D EVEN START A PICKETT RALLY OUT IN FRONT OF ONE BUC PLACE TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN. THATS ONE OLD MAN THAT STILL HAS IT and you would be a fool if you don’t try and pick him up if he is available. Gruden loves those veteran QBs. Thats where Grudens roots are from also is Green Bay.

Garcia may not have that new deal because a so called retired QB is likely comming back,,,#4,and word up here is its not likely he will come back to the PACK,,Hmmmm Tampa Bay perhaps..not as far fetched as you may think ..

Well Sports fans,
Since I make my home in Dallas, and still support our beloved Bucs. I hope that the Bucs will do everything to get ready for the upcoming season. I think they need to redo Garcia pay. If they bring that rb in. Then get rid of TE Stevens. Go Bucs.
I have to extend my thoughts on maybe another team in the Bay area THE RAYS. I Hope they bring a Championship this year to Tampa Area. GO RAYS

Jason Jesse,
You left out Warrick Dunn where do you put him ? You don’t think he is sitting the bench do you ? Graham and Dunn is going to carry the load along with Bennett. We do not need Kevin Jones. We are set right now for this season. Of course if Favre is available try and pick him up. But next seasons Draft is where we pick our future top WRs and QB and probably another RB. I hear we have alot of picks in the next draft. And there is better talent coming out in those possitions next season then there was this season. I think the Bucs did a good job this season on what they got.
Posted by Shawn Golan, Los Angeles, CA on 07/08 at 08:19 AM
JasonJesse, I have to disagree on two points. For one, you left out Warrick Dunn. I know a lot of people think that he’ll be nothing but a situational back. But mark my words, he’ll get a lot more touches than you think.
Two, I think Caddie should play this season. Maybe not in week 1, but perhaps midway through the season. We need to know if he’ll ever be a starter again. If yes - great. If not - then we need to start thinking about long-term solutions at RB. Caddie is our #1 RB as of now, with Graham and the others as a very talented supporting cast. If Caddie is done, we need to find his replacement. We can only do that once we find out if he’s okay - and he has to play for that to happen.
Posted by jason jesse, cocoa beach on 07/08 at 07:08 AM
This actually woukln’t be a bad idea. If they put Caddie on the unable to play list so he cannot play this yar and doeant count against the roster, they could pick kevin up. This way we could have Kevin Jones, Michael Bennet, and Ernest Graham is the bachklfeild this year (with the rookie Boyd as extreme back up) Who ever works out the best returns next year to tandum with Caddie.
I don’t wanna see Caddir play this year. He is lucky to be able to play again at all. Rushing him back before he is 100% is incredibly irresponsible and dangerous.

Gruden loves those veteran QB’s don’t be surprised if it happens if he is available. Please Brett come back to play football !! Maybe that would be the big surprise Allen has been talking about. It definitly would be a shocker. “GO BUCS”

Farve, Hmmmmm…..Could that be why Garcia hasn’t got what he wants yet? I wouldn’t put it past Allen. That would be a great score to get him. Your right, warm sunny Tampa, 1 hour plane ride home. I bet Allen would throw the plane in the deal for nothing. You know Farve wants another ring. Superbowl, home field advantage, good O line, warm winters, Grouchy coach. Just think, all that & pay too. Call him up. Brett, hello, get your butt to Tampa.

Brett Favre might really want to come back !! And play and for another team. “I’m not daydreaming I’m serious there has been talks about it everywhere”. If that is the case we should offer him a nice one year contract if that happens. That would be awesome!! It would be convient for him too since he lives around the corner. Chances would probably be slim and none though. Its just a nice thought.

Shawn, I’m most definitely an optimist about things. Big Mo is on the team for sure. He was outstanding on special teams - Kick coverage. Big & Fast, lots of tackles. Mo was an animal until he got hurt. I just think with our O line, our backs, our TE’s & Garcia in full swing, that our WR’s have it made. Teams will have to put 7 or 8 in the box against us, and still get pounded. I just I hope we keep getting better & I think we will for sure. Thanks for the reality check. Go Bucs !!!
Posted by Shawn Golan, Los Angeles, CA on 07/07 at 01:45 PM
BigBucFan…again, I really love the optimism and enthusiasm, but I can’t agree [yet]. Other than Joey, we’re not really sure what we have as far as WRs. Hilliard is dependable, but old and slow. Clayton still has to prove that his rookie season was not a fluke. Jackson is nothing more than a returner right now. Bryant looks good, but has a long way to go to earn playing time. And Stovall might not even make the team.
As things stand, they’re nothing but question marks. They may end up being “productive” - but not much more than that. Hopefully, that’s all we need.

I don’t see any needs on this team, unless Peyton Manning or Tom Brady becomes available. I’m with T from PSJ & Matt. I think our receivers are fully capable of really proving a lot of Doubters wrong. Not to mention our Tight Ends who can account for at least 50% of the Duty. The only reciever in the NFL that I would like to see in Buc Colors is Steve Smith. The guy is awesome. I wouldn’t give you 2 cents for T.O., Chad or Moss. They are good, but not team players. Watch, this season I predict all 3 will blow up at least once. Cowboys may be good, but their going down on Oct 26. Pacman will learn the new meaning of Burn. Galloway streaking down the Field. Our recievers Rock. Our whole team Rocks. Go Bucs !!!

Kevin Jones is from Chester like Jameer Nelson of The Orlando Magic. That said, how many RB’s do we need? Competition is great but we have other needs right now.
Posted by Matt, Tampa, fl on 07/06 at 11:06 PM
Antonio Bryant is a pro-bowl caliber WR. The Bucs offense is going to be electric if the offensive line holds solid the entire year. Four solid RB’s, a veteran QB, Two all star level wide outs. Watch out, or heads are going to fly.
Posted by todd, PSJ on 07/04 at 08:37 PM
Mike, our WR core is good enough. Just watch and see. Give A. Bryant and Dexter Jackson and Joey Galloway and Ike Hilliard and Paris Warren and Micheal Clayton and Marice Stovall a chance. I believe Mike Clayton will inprove this season.

Who cares about another running back? The Bucs are taking a big chance going into this year without another legitimate starting wide receiver. I feel we have a great chance for a super bowl run with our defense our offensive line and a very good group of running backs to go along with a couple of heady QBs. why in the world wouldnt the Bucs have gone after a big time wideout to help get us there?

we don’t need jones we need a DB and some WRs in short we need PLAYMAKERS!

I believe that Jones would a great addition ! as manny times as seen caddy get injured . It seems like it started the falling year when he balked up.He put on extra pound’s and he wasn’t the same.
Posted by patrick dotson, tampa,fl on 07/03 at 06:12 PM
actually i think if garcia wants to be a b%^&%,then griese should be the qb…garcia knew the contract he signed and should obey by it…the player should be responsable for his own actions…nobody forced garica to sign the contract he did…so in my opinion garcia is being a crybaby…welcome to the real world…go bucs!

flajoe,
You are absolutely correct !!!
Posted by flajoe491, port charlotte on 07/03 at 11:13 AM
Skylar I knew he, Garcia was under contract but he deserves a raise, and we don’t need an unhappy Qb . Please spare me any talk about Griese being able to lead this team .

Favre to Galloway. How’s that sound. The arm, the legacy, the man. Trade Simms to cowboys for Glenn. We could get Favre for next to nothing bof his ecause of his agent’s “no strings attached” comment. I mean c’mon we all know the guy just wants to play. West-coast quarterback with a west-coast offense. That’s all we need to get there this year. And defense? Yeah! we got it baby. Jackson, clayton, bryant, galloway, favre, dunn, gruden on offense. Guaranteed we’d score a few times. GO BUCCANEERS!
