USF lefty Teddy Kaufman was named national pitcher of the week Tuesday by the National College Baseball Writers Association for his 14-strikeout performance at UCF.
Kaufman shut out UCF, 4-0, allowing only four hits in the best outing of his career.
Meanwhile, former USF soccer player Zak Boggs has signed with the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer (MLS). Boggs will fill one of the two remaining development roster spots for the team for the upcoming 2010 season.
“It’s awesome,” Boggs said. “I want to play, but I have to take it one step at a time, day by day, and not get too far ahead of myself. There are going to be highs and lows, and I’ll try to take it all in stride.”
Boggs led the Bulls to the Big East championship in 2008 and finished his USF career with 18 goals.
