Junior Seau as a Sports Journalist

Once in a while, I like to go off-topic here in our little corner of the blogosphere, and this is one of those times.

I’m guessing you’ve all heard of Junior Seau, one of the best linebackers in NFL history. He’s still playing for the Patriots, but he’s also got this cool show on Versus called “Sports Jobs with Junior Seau.”

Basically, he leaves his helmet and pads behind and tackles another job in the sports world. He’s been a bull rider, caddie and even tried his hand at being a sports journalist on the latest show that aired Wednesday night.

I took special interest in the show because I’ve known about it for a few months. Seau followed former Tampa Tribune sports writer and current Sports Illustrated writer Andy Staples around in the days leading up to the annual Georgia-Florida clash in Jacksonville. He also covered the game with Andy, who covered the Florida beat for the Tribune before leaving a couple of years ago to join SI.com.

Anyway, if you’ve ever wondered about the life of a sports journalist, check out the show. Click here for a link to the Versus schedule. The name of the episode is “Sports Illustrated Journalist.”

Disclaimer: Andy is not only a good friend and one of the most passionate sports journalists I know, he’s also my brother-in-law and owes me a six-pack of beer next time we see other for promoting his budding TV career.
