MINNEAPOLIS Matt Joyce hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the top of the eighth inning to give the Rays an 8-4 lead against the Twins.
Batting for Gabe Kapler, Joyce lifted the ball just over the wall in center field.
It was the first career grand slam for Joyce and the first grand slam hit at Target Field.
It also capped a seven-rally.
The Rays had one run and four hits off Twins starter Francisco Liriano through seven innings.
But the Rays pounded three Twins relievers for seven runs on six hits and a walk.
