Former USF basketball star Dominique Jones, who became the first USF player taken in the first round last month, signed a two-year deal with the Mavericks on Tuesday.
According to the 2010-11 NBA rookie pay scale, Jones will earn $925,100 this season and $994,400 in the second season as the No. 25 overall pick in the draft. Jones’ contract is guaranteed for two years and the Mavs hold options for the third and fourth seasons.
After being selected by Memphis, Dallas owner Mark Cuban paid Memphis $3 million to acquire Jones.
Jones is currently playing for Dallas’ NBA Summer League team in Las Vegas. In three games, he is averaging 12.7 points on 32.3 percent shooting.
However, according to reports in Dallas, Jones has been drawing fouls and getting to the free-throw line frequently, which is a big reason why he was so intriguing to the Mavs.
