Jokinen clears, will play

Jussi Jokinen has cleared waivers this afternoon and will play tonight against Atlanta. Tampa Bay general manager Brian Lawton said that as of now there is no intention of sending down to AHL Norfolk and possibly putting him on recall waivers.
Jokinen said that he plans on using the situation as a wake-up call and wants to play better. While he admitted he’s been hampered by banged up knees, he didn’t want to use it as an excuse for his play.
Lightning interim coach Rick Tocchet said he wasn’t aware of how nicked up Jokinen was until earlier in the week when Jokinen took two days off from practice.

This is good news as long as he regains his playing ability that we have all seen.

If he was put on waivers as a “wake-up,” call, why wasn’t Ranger put on waivers? This borders on insanity, you put a guy on waivers for a wake-up call and you don’t even know the extent of his injuries.

Just proves these guys haven’t a clue….this organization is playing out like a bad Saw movie…

Ruthe, Jokinen was not put on waivers to send him a message, he was waived in the hopes somebody would pick him up and take his salary off the Lightning’s hands pure and simple. Sure, he hasn’t played well of late, there’s no debating that issue. But remember, while Jeff Halpern was injured most of his salary was picked up by the insurance policy USA Hockey took out on him before the World Championships. With Jokinen and Halpern making close to the same salary, it’s pretty clear this was a money move.

Erik: You are right, I was reading the St Pete Times and Lawton’s quote about the wake-up call for Jussi. I’m sure he meant being put on waivers was a wake up call but not the reason he was put on waivers. Well, that’s what I get for reading the St Pete Times, right:) Thanks and Happy Holidays!
