Well, maybe we’ll see Dan Johnson play in a Rays uniform at some point after all. The first baseman cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Durham.
Johnson, you’ll recall, was claimed off waivers last week and spent one day with the Rays—Tuesday—before being designated for assignment o make room for Gabe Gross, who was acquired that day in a trade with Milwaukee. The Rays sent Johnson through waivers immediately, giving him a chance to be picked up and continue to play in the majors, but there were no takers.
So, for the moment, he’ll add to their organizational depth.
