In the latest twist to what is becoming a very unique story, USF sophomore walk-on Joel Miller, who left practice Wednesday after only 20 minutes, spoke with an ESPN reporter Wednesday night. Miller made his first public comments about an alleged incident with Bulls coach Jim Leavitt during halftime of a Nov. 21 game against Louisville.
“I don’t think anything should happen to him,” Miller told ESPN. “Me and Coach Leavitt are fine. People can say different things but he only grabbed my shoulder pads to motivate me, because he’s a passionate guy. He never apologized because he had nothing to apologize for.”
Leavitt has strongly denied grabbing Miller by the throat and striking him twice as alleged in a report by AOL’s FanHouse.com on Monday.
“I believe that my family’s story was misrepresented,” Miller said. “I told this to the school when they interviewed me for a half-hour or hour on Tuesday. Basically, I wasn’t having a good game on special teams and he tried to motivate me. He [Leavitt] never did any of those things and he never has that I’ve seen. I had some things on my mind because my Grandfather had died the day before. Coach Leavitt cares about me. We talk all the time.”

Part of CJL’s problem is going to be Miller’s (and his family’s) change of direction on this issue. They may go back and forth on this but if the other “witnesses” say otherwise it won’t really matter what they say or how they change it.
They might see their position as one of fear from retribution…..in my opinion, it doesn’t look good for USF either way. If he did it he’s gone, if he didn’t the perception and investigation will always linger and people will woder about USF and its motivations.

Let the games begin! It’s a cover up! it’s a whitewash! They bought the kid off! He’s lying now!
Maybe he lied before - when he sadi coach hit him.
Wait, that doesn’t fit our story line.
USF: don’t let the local media run your athletic department.

The kid - who had NOT spoken publicly about this yet - comes forth and says it never happened, He did NOT recant his story, that IS his story. His dad didn’t recant the story, either, he said he was taken out of context in the first place. He said that from the beginning.
...um, where’s the story?
Well, first we’ll make it up; then we’ll lynch him or cry “cover up” if it’s not proven to be true.
Next story, please. A TRUE one, this time, if you please.

Scott, what do you think was the Wharton coach’s axe to grind? He said some pretty crappy things about Leavitt. Was it because USF doesn’t take enough of his players? What do you think? And is there any way to see what the grounds were for McMurphy’s deprture? I think some of that is as relevant to this story as anything else.

His HS coach, father, USF staff and others have all said something happened. How did his HS coach know or hear about it…..my guess, Miller? How do you know the father was “taken out of context?” Maybe they are both changing their stories, or dare I ay recanting.
The kid is backtracking and so is the father….that is at the core of CJL’s problem.
The X factor will be all the other witnesses….what they say or don’t will determine CJL’s fate. And as I said earlier, either way USF loses….perception is reality.

Reread the stories, and you have to look in about 3 different papers to get it all. Mcmurphy used hypotheticals and reapplied the answers as if they were answering questions about Leavitt.

The kid never said anything publicly until yesterday when he said it didn’t happen. No story quotes him prior to that.

I understand that and your point and I am not saying that CJL did do it, what I am saying is that we do not know that the other side of the story is not true. The HS coach did not pull his answers out of thin air he was told something and he based his responses on that….culd it be that Joel told him the truth, it was reported and now he has to come out and say noting happened….possibly.
This story has to be looked at from both sides, we don’t know, and both sides are possibilities. But the fact that one thing was said and reported and then another was said and mentions that they were misrepresented, misquoted, etc. does not mean that they are not recanting now.
Who to believe, is the question.

So far, the kid’s only statent is that nothing happened. Leavitt said nothing happened. The hs coach talked to the kid after every game and it wasn’t mentioned after the Lville game. The HS coach gets a call from bm and is asked a bunch of hypotheticals, that are used on a hit piece, and then says if leavitt did that I would not refer players there. Big difference.

Hector: Dont darken our site. Clearly, you like to stir s***. Now you’re trying to tell us the kid is lying, leavitt’s lying, the dad is lying. There is only one liar here…a bitter, immature, almost unemployed, working for a sport rag blog, McMurphy. Seems like you pop up whenever his name is mentioned, and you start backpeddling things. Get out.

JoeCole…..seems like you are the only one that likes to stir the pot. I have had no problems with anyone on this board since it began. I have disagreements with people’s opinions, not people, and they with mine….that’s how blogs work.
You on the other hand, come in attack and to top it off think this blog is “yours” since I assume you pressume to belong to “ours.” As a USF alumnus and supporter I have as much right to use this blog as anyone else…besides the fact that the 1st Amendment guarantees me that right.
JoeCole….I hope that is not what you get in your stocking. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

I’m pretty sure there’s no constitutional right to post on blogs. Merry Christmas, everybody! This thread is way done.

Dan…it was “way done” until JoeCole responded to me. And by the way read up on your Constitution because it does protect speech….which is waht we do here daily.
