INDIANAPOLIS – A player to watch once the free-agency signing period begins is former Jets tight end Chris Baker.
Baker, who was slated to make $9 million over the next three years, was released by the Jets on Friday and the Bucs are believed to be one of the teams most interested in giving him a new home.
Baker, 29, had a modest 21 catches in 2008 but he caught 72 balls for 709 yards and seven touchdowns in 2006 and 2007.
The Bucs have a hole right now at tight end, where Jerramy Stevens is once again a free agent.
The team has a solid blocking tight end in John Gilmore and an adequate pass catcher in Alex Smith.
Baker is judged by scouts to be just a shade better than Smith but he lacks the ability to get open down the seam that Stevens possesses.

Greatest work - I have position the script on my Christmas wish list and contributed it to my blog situation.
Thank you for alarming me to your position - I don’t read every post completely, I know, and this one slipped past my microwave radar.
