Jesuit High distance runner Jordan Schilit, who helped the Tigers capture state runners-up titles last season in both cross country and track, has published a book about his prep career entitled “In The Long Run.”

As Schilit says, the book was “written for the high school runner by a high school runner.” It follows Schilit from when he first started running as an 8-year-old through his middle and high school days. But the book is more than a biography of how Schilit went from being a runner who didn’t make Jesuit’s varsity team as a freshman to a state champion in the 4x800-meter relay. The book also offers advice, encouragement and training regimens for prep runners to follow, as well as his path toward college.

“The purpose of this book is to teach runners how they can constantly improve, little by little, in order to reach their goals,” Schilit writes. “It is not a hypothetical situation, a fictional story, or a memoir about an internationally-recognized runner, but rather a story about a high school runner, me, who inched his way up through the ranks each year through perseverance, discipline, and dedication to this sport.”

Schilit is headed to Haverford College in suburban Philadelphia to run for legendary coach Tom Donnelly, whose runners have earned 115 cross country and track All-American awards since 1980, including 24 individual NCAA championships and an NCAA championship relay team.
