Two-time defending district 400-meter champion Evan Rubinson has made a verbal commitment to a scholarship offer from Duke University, former Tigers track coach Ray Rodriguez said Thursday.

Rubinson is one of the most versatile and talented track athletes on this season’s Jesuit roster. Besides winning district titles in the 400 the past two years, Rubinson is also anchor man on the Tigers’ defending district champion 4x400 relay team, a foursome that also reached the medals podium of the Class 2A state finals with an eighth-place finish. Rubinson also has a medal from the 2007 state meet, here he ran a leg on the Tigers’ eigth-place 4x800 relay team.
Rubinson will be counted on heavily this season by first-year head coach Andy Wood. Rubinson will again be running the open 400 and 4x400 and should once again see duty in races from 200 to 800 meters. His personal best in the 400 is 50.98 seconds but with increased speed, endurance and strength, he is expected to easily run sub-50 this spring. He’s also run 2:01.80 for the 800 and 23.04 for the 200.
