Jesuit junior baseball player Conor O’Brien has committed to the University of Florida, Tigers coach Richie Warren said Tuesday.
O’Brien, a right-handed pitcher/outfielder, also had offers from Florida State and Florida Atlantic, according to Warren. He was recruited to pitch at Florida.
O’Brien saw limited action with the Tigers varsity squad last season but performed well. He threw six shutout innings, yielding just three hits while striking out eight. Warren said O’Brien had a great summer and flashed a fastball that consistently sat in the 86-90 MPH range.
O’Brien, currently playing for the Tigers football team, is the second Jesuit junior to verbally commit to the Gators, joining standout shortstop/pitcher Lance McCullers. He is also the team’s third junior overall to make a college commitment; outfielder Vincent Leto previously committed to USF.
