It took over a year to plan, but after just four weeks of construction, Jesuit’s new $150,000 video scoreboard is up and running. The new scoreboard will be functioning Friday night for the preseason game against Miami Belen Jesuit.
All that’s left to build are brick columns on each side.
Jesuit alumni Dan Clark and Tony Martino, of Clark & Martino, PA, donated money for the scoreboard, which will be used for soccer, football, track and field and lacrosse teams. In addition, it will be used to thank and recognize benefactors, feature upcoming events and highlight student and alumni programs and achievements.
The scoreboard will also allow for real-time streaming of events.
“It’s going to really add to the atmosphere but also to our school and community,” Jesuit athletic director Terry Rupp said. “The sky is the limit with what we can do here. We can really reach out to our alumni.”
“All of us at Clark & Martino are excited about the scoreboard and the upcoming football season,” Clark said.
Rupp said the school had a few problems with the old scoreboard, which shut off for a few minutes against Middleton in a regular season football game last year.
“It was something that was needed,” he said. “The timing was right.”
Clark said his law firm will also donate $100 to Jesuit for every touchdown scored on its home field.
“Giving back is really a source of inspiration for all the alumni,” Clark said.
Jesuit’s football team will also share mass and a pregame meal with Belen Jesuit prior to the game.
