Jesuit track and field athletes Nick Catchur and Nick Medich put an exclamation mark on what was already an outstanding track season when each produced a top-20 finish at this week’s AAU Junior Olympic Games in New Orleans, La.
Catchur, who will be a sophomore this year at Jesuit, placed 12th in the Intermediate Boys pole vault by clearing a height of 12 feet, 6 inches. That’s the same mark he posted at this year’s Class 2A state championships, where he finished ninth as a freshman. The winner of his division in New Orleans was Dylan Duvio of Kenner, La., with a height of 15-0. St. Petersburg High’s Cayman Ellis was the runner-up with a personal best of 14-0.
Medich, who was also ninth in the 2A state finals last season, equalled his state mark of 6-2 in the high jump to earn a share of 12th place in New Orleans. The winner was William Leblanc of Cecilia, La., at 6-10.
Earlier in the meet, Hillsborough junior Jeremiah Green took seventh place in the triple jump with a lifetime best of 48-1.
