Jesuit’s McGriff Picks Kansas

Jesuit wideout Erick McGriff has decided to make Kansas his college destination.

McGriff chose the Jayhawks over Arkansas and Auburn, among others.

“I just felt it was good fit,” said McGriff, a Tampa Tribune All-County first-team selection this year.

McGriff, who led the Tigers with 732 receiving yards and five touchdowns, also played defense for Jesuit, but Kansas will use him mostly at the receiver position.

“They’re looking at me as a deep threat,” McGriff said, “somebody who can stretch the field.”

Not only is this kid a great football player, but a great basketball player as well.  he comes from a wonderful family and we wish him well.  Who would have thought that Fred McGriff’s kid would play football and basketball!  Best of luck!

The McGriff & Clark kids are exceptional just like their families.
They are talented, hard working, compassionate and well liked by coaches, teachers and an abundance of friends. Too often in today’s world, sports fans mistakenly associate some athlete’s negative behavior with their popularity through media attention.  In contrast, these two young men are leaders and positive role models and have excelled at the athletic and academic challenges they’ve sought during their prep lives. They’ve “paid the price” and are “reaping the rewards”.  We’re all excited to continue following the successes of Erick and Austin and so many other kids like them who also deserve our admiration, good intentions and support.

Seems to me that “not right” makes an illogical argument. A player has to be very talented to be noticed when he plays for a smaller school on a smaller stage. Players who get recruited from schools like Jesuit and Tampa Catholic have to be much better than those lucky guys who play for larger schools with high profile quarterbacks like Murray. I admire McGriff for sticking with his alma mater and not moving to a bigger, more visible program to get more attention. Some times good guys finish first.

That just shows you the class and character of Austin Clark he is a great young man that comes from a great family at home and at Plant high school. For him to get on there and throw his boy some props that is big of him. But that is what Austin is all about.Austin is going to get his because there is few people that put the time in on and off the field that Austin does. This young man has a moter that does not stop.He is by far the most under rated player in the county maybe even the state.Hang in there big man things are going to fall in place you have worked to hard for them not to
best of luck coach Dixon

Stinger,
Apparently you werent at the basketball game earlier this week. Please correct me if I’m wrong(which I’m not…) but the score was Jesuit 70- Plant 66. By the way, take pride in your (recruited and illegitimate)football team. It appears to be the only thing going for your school(not college)...

If you are a good player, good teams will find you. That being said, being a good player doesn’t necessarily mean that you are a good person, nor does it mean that you are a bad person. The amount of college scholarships does not reflect the character of a human being. Playing with both Austin and Erick, knowing them for quite some time, I both know that these two kids are classy people.

By the way, those of you posting as tcguido, Albert, and jhs09. Just be quiet, you are making Jesuit look very bad.
