The Under Armour All-America Baseball Game has been reserved in years past for the nation’s top rising seniors.
However, Jesuit’s Lance McCullers is crashing the party this year.
McCullers, a rising junior, has been invited to play in this summer’s showcase event, Tigers coach Richie Warren said Monday. The game will be held Aug. 14 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
“It’s a huge honor to be one of two underclassmen to be ever selected for this event,” McCullers said via text message. “It’s a great opportunity for me and I am extremely excited to be able to play alongside some of the best up and coming seniors in the country.”
McCullers is the second Hillsborough County baseball player to be selected to play in a national high school baseball all-star game this summer. Alonso rising senior Jose Fernandez previously was selected to play in the Aflac All-American Baseball Classic, which will be played Aug. 15 in San Diego.
The Under Armour All-America Baseball Game will be the second prestigious event this summer for McCullers. The Jesuit standout infielder/pitcher recently made the USA 18-and-under National Team and will represent his country at the IBAF ‘AAA’ 18U Junior World Championship in Canada. That tournament begins July 23.
