RALEIGH, N.C.—Jesuit High School’s Hyer Family Park, the 500-seat, $2-million baseball stadium that opened last season, was named “National Field of the Year’’ on Friday night during the National High School Baseball Coaches Association convention.
Hyer Family Park was selected over other finalist facilities from Arizona, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon and Virginia.
Jesuit baseball coach Richie Warren and director of development Nick Suszynski accepted the award. There are tentative plans to have the award presented before Jesuit’s Feb. 26 game against Lakewood.
“It means a lot,’’ Warren said. “Our kids were thrilled to play at Hyer Family Park. I think it gave us some swagger and obviously all the fans really enjoyed it. It’s quite an honor and I think it says a lot about Jesuit’s commitment to excellence.’‘
