TORONTO Desmond Jennings has homered in his first two at-bats today to become the first Tampa Bay leadoff hitter to accomplish that trick since Rocco Baldelli on Sept. 14, 2006 at Yankee Stadium.
It is the first multi-home run game for Jennings, who became the seventh Rays rookie to homer at least twice in one game. The last was Reid Brignac, who did it July 17, 2010 in New York.
Jennings also became the third Ray this season to lead off a game with a home run, joining Johnny Damon and Matt Joyce.
Jennings second home run followed a two-run shot by Sean Rodriguez, giving the Rays back-to-back home runs for the fourth time this season.
Jennings has eight home runs in 34 games.
The Rays lead 5-0 in the second inning.
