Jefferson senior linebacker Fred Overstreet has verbally committed to Rutgers, Dragons coach Mike Fenton said Monday morning.
Overstreet finished the 2009 season with a team-best 160 tackles (averaging 12.3 tackles per game) and five sacks while helping the Dragons reach the Class 3A state semifinals.
He also played tight end and had 17 receptions for 164 yards and a touchdown.
Overstreet will sign with the Scarlet Knights, a Division I program that competes in the Big East Conference, on Wednesday. As of now, Overstreet is the only Dragons senior slated to sign on National Signing Day, though Fenton said offensive lineman Garrett Wolfe could finalize his plans before Wednesday as well.
