Earlier this summer, Tyriq McCord recruiting process took a turn when Butch Davis was fired as head coach at North Carolina. With Miami’s football program now under investigation, McCord is also questioning his recruitment to Miami.
McCord, the 6-foot-4, 230 pound defensive end at Jefferson, said he wants to see what sanctions will be handed down before getting too involved. He posted on his Twitter page on Wednesday that he might have to drop UM from his list, which drew a few responses from UM fans, but nothing vulgar.
McCord received a four-star rating by Scout.com and is ranked as the No. 22 defensive end in the country. McCord has offers from every major football program in Florida, as well as Southern California, Notre Dame and South Carolina. He has received an invitation to play in the prestigious U.S. Army All-American game.
Last season, McCord led Hillsborough County with 18.5 sacks along with 60 tackles and three forced fumbles as he helped the Dragons take home the Class 3A state championship, the first in school history.
