For the second-consecutive season, Jefferson’s girls basketball team will have a new head coach.
Jim Baxter told the Tampa Tribune he would not be returning as the Dragons head coach. Baxter replaced longtime Jefferson coach Tom Mosca last year after Mosca accepted an assistant coaching job with the Air Force Academy.
Former Jefferson junior varsity coach Natanya Miller has been promoted to take over the varsity position.
“The girls feel comfortable with her because they know her,’’ Jefferson athletic director Bob Morgan said. “She met with the girls in the weight room on Saturday to tell them and they were very excited.’‘
Last year, Baxter helped guide Jefferson to a 27-2 record. The Dragons, who outscored opponents by an average of 31 points, lost in the regional semifinals 57-54 to eventual state champion Lakewood.
