Jefferson’s leading scorer Laurie’ Beaty didn’t need a desperation heave at the buzzer to get her 1,000th high school point.
Needing just two points to reach 1,000 career points in Friday night’s game against Hillsborough, the junior guard got them when she hit a three pointer 12 seconds into the game.
“She took care of business right away,” Jefferson coach Tom Mosca said. “She didn’t waste anytime.”
Beaty, who finished with 24 points in the Dragons 61-41 victory, nearly reached the mark in Tuesday night’s win over Tampa Bay Tech, but fell two points shy. With the clock winding down in that game, Beaty threw up a shot that bounced off the rim as the game ended.
