Jefferson’s football team earned its way into the 2010 NFL 7-on-7 National Tournament by winning a regional qualifier Wednesday at Sam Horton Stadium.
The Dragons were undefeated in seven games of round-robin play. Once past that stage, it was single elimination.
In the semifinals, Jefferson beat Tampa Catholic 49-14. In the championship game, Jefferson quarterback Quentin Williams produced five touchdown passes in a 38-28 victory over the Lee County All-Stars.
Also competing in the all-day event were Alonso, Carrollwood Day, Middleton, Robinson and Steinbrenner.
The Dragons will host 21 other teams on Saturday and Sunday in the seventh annual event. Each team will represent an NFL franchise, with Jefferson representing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jefferson High had previously been selected to host the event.
The two-day event will stage a round-robin portion on the opening day to determine seeds for the single-elimination portion of the event, which will be held on Day 2.
