Jeff Lacy wants to make one thing perfectly clear, though he has split from trainer Dan Birmingham, the two remain on good terms.
Lacy has returned to former trainer Roger Bloodworth, who trained the St. Petersburg super middleweight early in his career. Lacy also said the door isn’t shut on he and Birmingham reuniting in the future.
Just before a training session with Bloodworth Thursday afternoon, Lacy said he needed a change in his routine. It was not a slap in the face to Birmingham, who Lacy considers a friend, instead it was an intentional and needed shock Lacy’s system.
When it comes to challenges, some people say, “well, I don’t know if I can do that. I don’t know if I can go off and train with this other trainer,” Lacy said from Phoenix, AZ. “When you go there and you see all the great things that happens when you present the challenge and welcome the challenge, you sit back and go, man, this is easy. I like this and at the same time, I’m learning something different.”
Lacy will fight in May against and opponent to be named later on the undercard of the Shane Mosley-Zab Judah fight.
