Jay Mize is a genius. I’m not.
There I said it. Now the entire free world – or at least the 72 million or so folks that read this blog daily – knows the truth: Jay Mize is a freaking genius!
It was just a few months ago, in April I think, when Mize, a former safety for USF, and I were discussing the upcoming USF season.
We had a lot of similar opinions about the Bulls’ 2009 season, but there was one major disagreement. He said USF would defeat Florida State. I said no way.
Our friendly debate continued throughout the summer and heated up once the season began. Then, even after Matt Grothe went down with an injury, Mize never backed down.
It reminded me of the Mize I covered on the playing field. Like when he played his sophomore season with a dislocated shoulder or as a senior lied to team doctors about the severity of neck injury, so he could continue playing. Mize forged ahead.
He still had confidence in his Bulls even with a rookie making his first start.
Mize still said the Bulls would win even without Grothe. Jay Mize is a freaking genius. Me? I predicted Florida State would win 41-17 – hey at least I correctly predicted USF would score 17. It was the 41 part I was a bit off.
Nostradamus Mize says the Bulls will finish 10-2 with the losses coming to Miami and one Big East opponent. You heard him, the man’s a genius.

Genius? Okay. Me, too. I predicted USF 24 FSU 21. I think there were a lot of us who thought we could beat the Noles. Meanwhile, Miami has to come here, and with a packed house, that could be another USF upset (I hope, I hope, I hope). As for the Big East: Cincy looks awfully strong. I think we take down Syracuse, Uconn, and Louisville, and maybe lose to Cincy. West Virginia, I don’t know. I think we could just as easily beat all but 1 BE opponent as we could lose to 4 of them. But it’s certainly looking like it’s going to be a great season!

Dalatorr, congrats on the pick. I think everyone realizes as big as the FSU win was, USF must avoid a let down this week.

why does he only have 19pts in the pick contest then?

I thought usf would beat fsu. If usf beats syracuse, usf will finish 10-2. If not, 8-4. usf will beat miami.
