ST. PETERSBURG John Jaso will be activated from the disabled list Friday in time of the start of the weekend series with the visiting Mariners.
Robinson Chirinos was option back to Durham on this afternoon.
Chirinos started 15 of 25 games and was batting .218 with a home run and seven RBIs. Those seven RBIs came in a three-game span from Aug. 3-5, a stretch in which he reached base in nine of 13 plate appearances.
He cooled off considerably since then, going 0-for-15 in his last five games. He also threw out only two of 23 base stealers.
Jaso was placed on the disabled list immediately after the All-Star Break because of a strained oblique. He was on a rehab assignment with the Bulls.
In other medical news, the Rays announced RHP Alex Cobb successfully underwent surgery today to remove a blockage near his right first rib. He is expected to be ready to pitch by spring training.
