Forum: Talk Bucs | List: Bucs Free Agents

University of South Florida WR Amarri Jackson and LB Ben Moffitt never heard their names called during Sunday’s NFL Draft, but their NFL hopes are still very much alive.
Jackson said Sunday night he signed a free-agent deal with the Tampa Bay Bucs and will report to the team Thursday, while Moffitt signed with the Houston Texans.
Along with CB Mike Jenkins (first round, Dallas) and CB Trae Williams (fifth round, Jacksonville), the Bulls will have at least four rookies in NFL camps.

I think Tampa could have shop Jenkins after Tampa selected him at 20. Then if Cowboys wanted him they could have given up pick #22 or #28. Plus a 2nd or a 3rd Rd. Then Tampa could have got another CB at #22 or #28. Then pick up a WR at 2nd Rd (Tampa Pick) and with the Cowboys pick get that Dexter Jackson CB with Dallas pick. This wouls give Tampa a double trouble effect. Then Dexter Jackson could also be the KR specialized in Year one. Then we also could Jackson QB from SD in round 5.

MAN!!! I can’t wait for pre-season.

Greg, I couldn’t say it better than that. This kid is going to be lethal
in a couple years. Hes only 20.
Derrick Brooks got this kid under his wing I’m sure of it.Hes got the best players “Brooks and June” and coaches
to show this kid what the NFL is all about.

It was reported that Geno Hayes is only 20 years old. That is still very young people and this kid has time on his side to grow and improve. He may be the sleeper in this draft class!

Amarri is a great player who can be a beast if he makes the team. He can be put anywhere on the line at WR and make plays. He did have bad drops this season, but he knows he is better than what he looked. He can take a hit like Keyshawn did or make a jump ball catch...and in the open field, he is hard to tackle because he has amazing juke skills.

You have to remember: He only signed
to try out he is not on our roster yet
and probly won’t be. I don’t know what everybody else thinks but I think we really have enough talent at WR right now. Galloway,Hilliard,Stovall,Warren,
A.Bryant,D.Jackson and RBs that can catch and run “DUNN.” Did everybody forget about him?
We need to try and land Jason Taylor here. THATS WHAT WE NEED!! PASS RUSH!!!
Give Miami CLAYTON/SIMMS and next years 3rd round pick next year. Come on
Parcells you won’t pass up Phills son would you?

The Bucs should look more frequently at USF players for try-outs. The cost is next to nothing and hometown players always make for a nice little media story.
Amarri peaked in 2005. At the time, he looked like he would be a beast. He never fully panned out and had a serious case of the dropsies last season, along with an injury. That said, he’s big and was a basketball star at HCC. I don’t expect him to get past training camp, but he’ll put in the effort to try and make it.
And having seen several Kansas and USF games, I can say that Jenkins was born to play in the Tampa 2, and is by far the safer choice. I actually don’t Talib even has his potential; Jenkins is only an inch shorter and much faster (and he can hit).

YIKES,
Travelling Bucs fan, My opinion had detailed why I was unhappy. I stated, “The WR from App. St. is little, has questionable hands played at a small school in a simplified system.” That is “insight.”
Rick, Gino Hayes a great line backer? I imagine he’s better than I, but I’m hoping that’s not the criteria Gruden and Allen use to determine how to stock their rosters.
He was called “the poor mans Derrick Brooks” by many scouts. He was 6th rounder, which means the leagues GMs, not me, didn’t think much of him either.
The waste of a 5th round pick on a skinny QB from a small school that will not even be a help on special teams is idiotic.
It’s my opinion. Calm down fellas.

Andre M. Hernandez, syracuse, N.Y., you shouldn’t be calling people idiots when you yourself cannot spell and offer no insight. If you think you know so much, why aren’t you an NFL GM?
Exactly.

didn’t gaines adams admit to using pot last year before we drafted him and he hasn’t had any problems so far. i’m not that concerned about it but passing on a good wr in the first round kind of irked me but then again, so did every other team, probably for a reason too.

Look, I wouldn’t say Geno is a “great” LB by any means. He was very good at times with FSU. He was often nonexistent in games. But he was a 6th round choice, so I’m not too concerned about that potential reach. What does confuse me, was the moving down in the 2nd and getting Dexter Jackson, who by many accounts, is not even listed as WR in classification but a KR. Granted we need both, but we passed on a Limas Sweed in moving down. That is a move that concerns me more.

It’s amazing how everyone complains about picks they have no knowledge of. Give them time before passing such harsh judgment. I personally like the picks. As far as the “character issues” with Talib, many young athletes have made mistakes and have been labeled with question marks. Fortunately for us, it allowed Talib to fall to us when he was the best corner in the draft. I think he can move on from it. I remember the last time we drafted someone whose reputation made him fall in the draft. He had a hall of fame career and helped lead us to a Super Bowl. Thanks Warren, and all those teams who let you slip by. I’m going to root for our picks to suceed rather than complain and then jumping on the bandwagon when they turn out to be good.

Mr. Hernandez, Gino Hayes is a great linebacker, apparently better than you and I since we are writing to talk about him instead of playing alongside or across from them. Also it isn’t fair to compare him to a furture Hall of Famer when has hasn’t played a snap in the NFL yet. Give him time to learn from Derrick Brooks......oh by the way that is how you spell his name. It’s Derrick Brooks not Derik Brookes
Posted by Andre M. Hernandez, syracuse, N.Y. on 04/28 at 08:27 AM
Aqib Talib was the only pick that made sense. I’m O.K. with the DT from Maryland even though he takes plays off. I’m O.K. with a new OG who is versatile.
The WR from App. St. is little, has questionable hands played at a small school in a simplified system. The “poor mans” Derek Brookes pick from Fl. St. was a waste. Wouldn’t it better to get a Derek Brookes than a “poor mans” version of him?
The wasted QB pick from San Diego screams incompetence.
Gruden and Allen are idiots.

Looking at the Bucs draft picks it is obvious character counts for nothing.
The bucs bring back back Greise who hasn’t played well since 2000 and still
draft another QB. The tiny WR from App.
St. might be a good return man, but they good have gotten him in the 4th round. Grade: C-

The Bucs should have drafted Moffitt in the late rounds and I’m surprised that no one else drafted him. I also couldn’t believe that Trae Williams fell as far as he did, Jacksonville got a hell of a player in the 5th round. Any news on Clebert?

I can’t believe the Bucs signed Amarri Dropson, I mean Jackson. I can’t imagine what the Bucs are going to do next. As a true Bulls fan, I certainly hope that Amarri brings his A+ game to tryouts and actually catches and keeps the ball.

Who is Walt Walker????
Posted by Michael Singleton, Laguna Niguel, CA on 04/27 at 11:02 PM
Walt is signing a tryout contract but is not signed to an offical contract.
Posted by Dan Shreve, Titusville, FL. on 04/27 at 10:08 PM
I give the BUCS a B+ on the draft.
Good job Gruden/Allen
Posted by Nathan, Temple Terrace on 04/27 at 10:07 PM
What about Walt Walker? Anybody going to give him a shot at the next level?
Posted by Dan Shreve, Titusville, FL. on 04/27 at 10:04 PM
Are you serious???? I haven’t seen Jackson play is he any good????If you were GM would you take him??? Now lets try and get a deal for Jason Taylor.

George,
The reason Dallas took Mike Jenkins is
because we took Talib first. If we would have took Mike first Dallas would have chosen Talib thats the way it would of went.
