MIAMI GARDENS – For those of you keeping score at home today, we have a clarification on the wildcat.
Though it’s clearly a changeup from their normal package, the Dolphins don’t count the play as being part of the wildcat when quarterback Pat White handles the ball.
The only plays that are designated as true wildcat plays are those in which the ball is snapped directly to a designated running back, be it Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams or Lex Hilliard.
A lot of the plays White has been involved in have been deemed wildcat plays by some media and the Dolphins even have a name for those plays. They call them WildPat plays.
For statistical purposes, however, the Dolphins don’t count any of the WildPat plays as wildcat plays.
