Bucs Report
Is Griese’s Sore Arm An Injury Of Convenience?

TAMPA – Brian Griese is hurt. No one is debating that. It really seems, though, as if Bucs coach Jon Gruden is using Griese’s injury as a convenient excuse to make yet another change at quarterback.

Gruden lamented again on Wednesday the miss Griese had on a throw to a wide open Jerramy Stevens on a second-and-10 play from the Denver 21-yard line last week. That, the six interceptions Griese threw the two-weeks prior to the Denver game and some other misses seem to have really dimmed Gruden’s confidence in Griese.

At the same time, Gruden’s confidence in Garcia is clearly on the up-tick. Even Garcia seems more confident. And well he should be. After engineering a 90-yard TD drive last week, he’s not the same quarterback he was five weeks ago.

“I don’t know if I can be the savior here,’’ he said. “What I can do is go out and play the I know I can. That means executing this offense efficiently and giving our guys a chance to make plays.

“And when things break down I have to be able to make plays myself. That’s something I’ve always been able to do in the past and that needs to be part of my game again.’’

Blah blah blah blah blah.

Our stinking pile of dog crap QB’s is making me sick no matter who plays there.  The only team with a worse QB situation is Detroit, maybe Baltimore.

Gruden certainly has a personality that some mistake for quality, yet his strategy - which includes both personnel and game plan - SUCKS!

Go Buccaneers.  I love ‘em, but I’m agraid to watch this week.  I can’t take another loss to Carolina at home!

Roy, why are you making such a big deal about this? For a story? If you want to write stories, get a job with E Entertainment. This is the NFL, (NOT FOR LONG.) If someone isn’t performing, you remove, replace or fire them. Okay? Gruden is all about WINNING NOW! That’s why he’s a good football coach. To me, he’s looking at it from the viewpoint: “who gives us the best chance to win NOW!” Can anyone deny that it’s Garcia right now? In a week or two, if Garcia doesn’t perform up to his potential, it may be Griese. WHO CARES? It’s all about WINNING. If Garcia or Griese get their itty bitty feewings hurt, TOO BAD, SO SAD! Judas Priest Roy, get a nose for the NFL game. And back off of Gruden. He’s doing a pretty good job.

So what, for crying out loud! If Greise deserves to be benched for his in-effective play, then Chucky should have the guts to say just that. But if Garcia is ready and effective then, why not start him. The writer point is mute; we need to play the best QB, or any other position player for that matter. Start Luke or Josh if they’d help the Bucs win, for that matter if Roy Cummings himself (yeah right) could be an effective QB, then start him.  GO BUCS!

I agree with you Bill. Griese couldnt throw the ball yesterday in practice, yet Gruden may be electing to use his injury as a convenient excuse to start Garcia…

Are we fabricating a controversy here or what?

I think the point the writer is trying to make is that is the injury bad enought ot warrant the benching, or is it just convenient that Griese happens to have an an injury so Gruden can justify sitting him without saying he sucks?  People play hurt all the time.

this article makes no sense. you state that no one is debating that Brian Griese is hurt then go on to say Gruden is using it as an excuse to make a QB change. what would you suggest happen, play a hurt QB so as not to have to make another change at QB? this is a terrible example of reporting.

I heard Griese hurt his arm playing guitar hero. That game is so addictive and dangerous especially during the long solo’s.
