Armwood quarterback Darryl Richardson received a knock on the same knee he injured in the Hawks’ season-opener against Las Vegas Bishop Gorman but the injury is not expected to keep the junior standout out of action for this week’s game against Strawberry Crest, coach Sean Callahan said.
Callahan said the hit to Richardson’s knee, which came in Friday’s district win over Sickles, did cause some minor swelling to the knee. Richardson came out of the game after being hurt and did not return to the field. The knee will be re-evaluated Monday to ensure there are no issues. Since the Gorman game, Richardson’s only action came in the Jefferson game on Sept. 30.
In Richardson’s place under center has been junior wide receiver/defensive back/kick returner Alvin Bailey, whom Callahan says “might be one of the best high school football players in the state” because of his versatility and effectiveness on offense.
Also hurt in the Sickles game was Armwood tightend K.J. Miles. He received an ankle sprain but like Richardson, Callahan said Miles should be able for duty Friday against Strawberry Crest, a district opponent which has not won a game this season.
