After three seasons, Harry Hubbard is out as football coach at Blake High, Hubbard confirmed Tuesday afternoon.
Hubbard said Yellow Jackets athletic director Jesse Salters and principal Jacqueline Haynes had decided to go in another direction with the football program. Hubbard is coming off a 4-6 record at the Class 5A school in one of the area’s most competitive districts, one that contains strong teams from Jesuit, Robinson and Lakewood. Among those victories this fall was a 41-19 romp over longtime rival Middleton. It was the first time in seven years Blake knocked off the Tigers.
Last year, the Yellow Jackets went 5-5 but were forced to forfeit a game due to a player eligibility issue. In his first year, Hubbard’s team went 1-9. Hubbard previously coached at Middleton, where he had guided the Tigers into the playoffs.
Hubbard said he still wants to coach football and plans to apply for the vacancy at Chamberlain.
“I would’ve stayed here but I guess it wasn’t in God’s plans,” Hubbard said. “I still enjoy it (coaching). I will be putting my name in the hat at Chamberlain and pray for the best.”
