In The Game will be featuring hockey Hall of Famer Gordie Howe in its 2012 products, beginning with the Heroes and Prospects set, which is scheduled to hit stores on Feb. 23.
Howe, of course, is the benchmark by which hockey cards are measured. Sure, Wayne Gretzky’s cards are coveted, but “Mr. Hockey” set the standard beginning with the 1951-52 Parkhurst set.
It’s hard to believe, but Howe turns 84 in March. He was such a tough guy, he’d probably still enjoy getting on the ice and dishing out some hits and scoring some goals. That’s my impression, anyway.
In The Game has featured Howe in its sets before, most recently in 2001-02. The company will be featuring autograph and relic cards this year, and the Heroes and Prospects will be the first one available for collectors.
That will be something to look forward to.
