How to improve the Bucs - why not leave it to the experts?

If you take a look round the various Buccaneer-related message boards, there are a number of things that need to urgently be done to improve the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their 2007 season ended last Sunday against the New York Giants.

1.  Fire Jon Gruden came the call on many threads - after all, Tony Dungy was fired after losing two consecutive play-off games so it stands to reason that Gruden should go too.

2.  Fire Monte Kiffin - after all, the Bucs gave up a 92-yard drive to Eli Manning of all people and someone has to take the blame for that.

3.  Fire Jeff Garcia - he’s 37 years old and coudn’t lead the Bucs to a play-off victory. Therefore it stands to reason that he isn’t needed either.

4.  Fire Joey Galloway - he only had one reception for 8 yards last Sunday.  The Bucs need more than that from their top receiver so he can go as well.

5.  Fire the cannons - sorry, that was me just getting carried away.  A bit like all of these suggested postings.

Everyone with an opinion (and a keyboard and a network connection), has been posting their comments on the Bucs’ demise.  And you can think back three months when the trading deadline was approaching, and most people had the Bucs mortgaging their futures by sending 1st round picks, other players and the coaches’ first born sons to the likes of San Diego for RB Michael Turner.

Forgive me for pointing this out again, but the Bucs running game looked pretty good the rest of 2007 with Earnest Graham, Michael Pittman and the occasional infusion of Michael Bennett who cost a lot less than Turner would have done (even if the Chargers had been willing to do any kind of deal).

So I have this really way-out and completely off-the-wall idea for the Bucs - why don’t we leave it to the likes of Joel Glazer, Bruce Allen and Jon Gruden to decide on how to improve the team’s performance going forward?

I know, it’s just out there but there are 20 other NFL teams who wish they had been playing at home to the Giants last Sunday and none of the so-called pundits at the start of the season had the Bucs down to win the NFC South Division.

So maybe, just maybe, these guys know what they are doing.  So why not leave them to it instead of panicking and doing something that only the likes of Leeman Bennett or Hugh Culverhouse would have done in the past.

I think we have the making of a great team if he would just let the players work together and get used to each others timing, quirks, movement, whatever, he keeps changing players and it takes awhile to make a good oiled machine and I think he can do that if he would just leave them alone and stop changing everyone all the time.

Judging by the comments, spelling, grammar and punctuation are no longer taught in the United States.

Judging by the comments, your idea isn’t too popular.  smile

offense- we need a quarter back who can throw.jeffs arm is week.how many times did he under throw galloway or clayton (who isnt the fastest guy)we need a guy with a big arm that can move, maybe culpepper who is good behind a good o-line,derrick anderson who has a good deep ball. chris simms could be better with an upgraded o-line we dont need receivers with more speed we need a big arm qb.a pro bowl LT, flozell adams or i like max starks from pittsburgh he is big (6’7” 320) and young.
defense- CB barber and kelly past prime, fabian washington fast with value at kick return asante samuele, marcus trufant. DT maybe shaun rogers, detroit or albert haynsworth,tn. jered allen de,kc.brooks is old lance briggs the answer.

Mr. Stewart I stand w/you on leaving decision to the team’s owner & mngt to make personnel decision going forward, but some of us can see the writing on the fall for some of the current players & can provide constructive criticism. It’s obvious that age, healing & injury speed or its lack with most of the receiving corp is not going to be there next year without a heathy & speedy Galloway every other receiver’s contribution is going to be deminished. Galloway is not going to be the same next year. The Bucs need to bring either thru the draft or free agency a couple of great athletic receivers. As far as the defense & O-line goes age & stamina is going to be a factor and young players like Sears & Adams etc.need to gain body strength

Caddy won’t do us much good as trade bait. What team in there right mind is going to give anything for a back coming off of his kind of injury. May as well put him on IR for next season too. Bennett will probably be traded though. Hopefully we can get a middle rounder for him. A good pick-up this offseason I think would be either D.J. Hackett or Bernard Berrian.

I am no Gruden fan but I guess he is going to be staying, I am fine with that.  I would also be fine with him being fired.  Mike Singletary is my choice as next Buc’s coach.  Galloway needs to go, non-existent in half the games this year.

I disagree with the headline more than the actual article. People hate Gruden simply because he replaced Tony Dungy, like it’s his fault the man got fired. Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t be allowed to speculate and throw our ideas into the mix. It’s fun, and it gives us something to talk about now that our season’s over.

THANK you. Finally some bloody sense has been spoken. Thank the football Gods that Tampa fans have no say in Buccaneer policy.

Set at defensive backs. Have Sabee returning too. Linebacker corps are deep & will do well. Need to keep Cato. Defensive line, need a run stuffer likes of Wilfork & need to get a better pass rush. Need G. Adams to come into his own like Mario Williams has. Offensive line going to get better; young and hungry! Running back, gotta love EG; what a worker & he will be consistently effective.Great back out of the back field. Caddy could be trade bait for a speedy receiver. Garcia is fine IF he doesnt get hurt. NEED a speedy young possesion receiver. I think Clayton has grown up, lots of intensity of the old Michael. Coachs are fine !!
