How Many at Sun Dome Tonight?

The USF men’s basketball team, fresh off a 67-61 win Friday night at SMU in the season opener, plays its home opener tonight at the Sun Dome.

And if you like college hoops, it should be a good one. The Bulls aren’t hosting some lightweight like Utah Valley or Savannah State. Nope, the Bulls open against ACC program Virginia, led by first-year coach Tony Bennett, who takes over a team that finished 10-18 last season. That was the program’s worst record in 42 years, so changes had to be made in Charlottesville.

In glancing at the boxscore from Friday’s win, the performance of Gus Gilchrist obviously stood out the most. The former Maryland transfer scored 23 points to lead the Bulls to a nice win to start the season.

Here’s what I noticed next: Announced attendance was just 2,213. Got me to thinking if there will be more than that tonight at the Sun Dome. SMU is similar to USF in some ways, being a metro university in a major city that is football crazy.

I have no idea if more than 2,213 will show up tonight at the Sun Dome. I sure hope so. What do you think?

Cool your jets Rocky… UVA is predicted to finish 11th in the ACC and they were not playing with two of their better players, including a 7-footer that would have definitely created more foul problems for our bigs. Both of our bigs ended up with four fouls last night… We need to get more minutes for our bench players. UVA folded the tents with just over three minutes left. At that point, I wish we would have thrown in five frosh to let them get some experience, instead, they got one possession when they replaced Jones and crew with less than a minute left. We will have a rocky road ahead of us… but it feels good to get off to such a decent start compared to previous years and actually have a dominating win over a name school.

Winning brings in fans.
Winning and having exciting players brings in more.
We have both.
I look for bigger and growing crowds this season as I believe we can play with anyone in the BE and with so many coming back next year, we will challenge for the title.

Terry’s crystal ball certainly works better than mine. The announced attendance at last night’s USF home opener was 4,193.

Those who showed up got to see a strong performance by the Bulls. If USF can play with the same defensive intensity and get similar production from Dominique Jones, Gus Gilchrist and Jarrid Famous regularly, the Bulls will surprise some folks.

I was going to guess only 2000 but Terry’s number made me think it might be more, so I guesses higher.

Well, I’m here at the Sun Dome and let’s just say the house has plenty of good seats available.

I’m guessing we’re going to be under 3,000…my guess is 2,891.

Terry is such an optimist. Does that number include the band and the cheerleaders? It’s a Monday during football season, so I’m guessing most Bulls fans will be watching Monday Night Football. I estimate attendance at 3,000.

4,673 fans… bank on it.
