How Big Can USF-Miami Rivalry Become?

Posted Nov 23, 2009 by Scott Carter

The Associated Press ponders how big the USF-Miami rivalry can become in this story published today on TBO.com.

The teams will play regularly over the next five years. What do you think? Is there any reason this rivalry can’t become one of the hottest in the country over the next few seasons?

“It’s South Florida having an opportunity to get on the map.” - UM Coach Randy Shannon.

This is why USF will win on Saturday. NOBODY at Miami thinks anything of USF. They think we are trying to get on the map. They are already thinking about what bowl game they want. Even though they have 3 conference losses, they talk about having their swagger back all season. Man, when you have confidence, you don’t have to tell people that you have your swagger back. Sounds like they are trying to convince THEMSELVES. Overlook USF at you own peril, Miami - and your head coach just did.

USF 28 UM 21 GO BULLS!

“It’s South Florida having an opportunity to get on the map.” - Randy Shannon, U of M head coach.

Not to put too fine a point on it, coach, but we GOT on the map when we hit the #2 spot in the rankings. That’s just 1 spot less that UM was ever ranked, pal. Ask Auburn and West Virginia about the map, because we smacked them over the head with it. I almost feel sorry for the Canes, because we are going to bring it and bring it and bring it, whether the score is 50-0 or 0-50.

USF: be as LOUD the entire game Saturday. Bring it! GO BULLS! BEAT THE CANES!

Oh, one last thing: the swaggering UM schedule included such POWERHOUSES as Duke, the greatness that is Florida A&M, perennial homecoming team UCF, and a 38-34 struggle - STRUGGLE - against the defunct Seminoles, who, 3 weeks later, we took down 17-7. So I guess we have to ask the question; are we playing your team or your past reputation? Because reputation is what’s getting you ranked #19, soon to be NOT in the Top 25 after Saturday.

GO BULLS!

It’s simple. If we win, it’s a rivalry.
Good prep, cut the mistakes, and we win.
Instant rivalry because they have to play us each year for at least the next four unless they pull and Gator on us and stop scheduling us after that like UF did with Miami.

This is definitely the makings of a big rivalry. Playing this game for next few years during Thanksgiving weekend will just add to the rivalry and the importance that game is w/r/t recruiting is very obvious.  Hopefully USF brings its’ A-game this Saturday and does what Bulls do best when playing a ranked team and when they’re the underdog: they kick butt and win a big game! I’m not a big Leavitt fan, but if they beat Miami, I’m with him until it’s obvious that USF needs a change in order to win Big East.  Happy Thanksgiving and Go Bulls!!
