ST. PETERSBURG—Outfielder Matt Joyce has hit home runs in each of his first two games back since rejoining the Rays on Sunday, and with a right-handed pitcher on the mound tonight for the Royals in Brian Bannister, he’ll get a third consecutive start.
Joyce, who went 3-for-4 with four RBIs last night in a 6-2 Rays victory, will play right field and bat sixth.
As reported a little bit ago, third baseman Evan Longoria is out with a strained left hamstring. Willy Aybar starts at third and Gabe Gross is the DH.
Here’s Tampa Bay’s lineup:
B.J. Upton, CF
Carl Crawford, LF
Willy Aybar, 3B
Carlos Pena, 1B
Ben Zobrist, 2B
Matt Joyce, RF
Gabe Gross, DH
Dioner Navarro, C
Reid Brignac, SS

I really like the guys who try to evaluate this trade less than three months into the first season.
Both Jackson and Joyce are going to good, that’s obvious. The Rays had starting pitching depth and needed a young, LH-power hitter. And there’s now way the Tigers trade Joyce for Sonnanstine; that’s gonna cost a power arm.
