USF coach Skip Holtz said Sunday night that junior running back Darrell Scott is entertaining the idea of putting his name in as an early-entry candidate for the NFL draft.
“I don’t know exactly where it is right now. We’ve had a couple conversations, not any final conversation, but the one would be Darrell Scott,” Holtz said when asked if any of the Bulls underclassmen were considering an early jump to the NFL. “He’s going to have some decisions to make. I’d like to think his decision isn’t made at this point from the conversations that we’ve had. But he has some things he’s going to have to evaulate and some decisions he’s going to have to make.”
Scott, once regarded as the nation’s top high school running back recruit who transferred to USF from Colorado, led the Bulls in rushing in his first season with the team, finishing 2011 with 814 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Scott left USF’s season-ending loss to West Virginia early with a right shoulder injury, though Holtz said Sunday it would not require surgery.
