Holtz Provides Twitter Update

At the same time Joel Miller was having a press conference at his attorney’s office in Tampa—Miller is the USF player at the center of the incident that led to Jim Leavitt’s firing—the leading candidate to replace Leavitt, Skip Holtz, was on Twitter.

He had a message for all the East Carolina fans concerned about the Pirates’ program.

The message @CoachHoltz: “All the coaches have returned from the AFCA Convention and are now in the office focusing on recruiting.’‘

As for Holtz? He wasn’t on campus Thursday morning according to two sources I spoke to, and Rivals.com/Yahoo! national football writer Tom Dienhart had the following tweet shortly prior to Holtz’s:

@TomDienhart: “Someone close to Skip Holtz told me something “should be done today one way or another” concerning the USF job. He isn’t on campus today.’‘

What about those late-surfacing Mark Whipple rumors? The Miami offensive coordinator is considered a top-notch offensive mind, but Holtz remains the leading candidate.

If the two sides can work out a deal, Holtz will be USF’s head football coach on Saturday when USF hosts several recruits.

Clearly, Woolard and Judy knew who they wanted and wasted no time getting him.  Holtz will bring youth and respect, plus think of the positive press USF will get everytime daddy Lou speaks on ESPN.  Smart move, Judy.  Congrats on a savvy manuever.  GO BULLS!  Now I will renew my season tickets.

joecole, that was always in the back of my mind, too, that Lou could give a few more nice mentions about USF now that his son is head coach here.

I wanted Fulmer, but this is still a very good choice. I think we will see improvements with the media and no midseason dropoff. I also think that this guy knows what it takes to build a championship team, and at the end of the day, that’s what we all want.

When Grothe went down, Daniels had to step in and not miss a beat.

Now that Leavitt is gone, I think most fans feel that Holtz can step in and not miss a beat, and in fact most fans expect he will take us to a new level.

Welcome, Coach Holtz! Just win, baby.

GO BULLS!
