New USF football coach Skip Holtz and former USF coach Jim Leavitt spent time together during the PapaJohns.com Bowl festivities in 2006.
Leavitt got the win in their only head-to-head meeting, a 24-7 USF victory over East Carolina.
Here is what the two coaches had to say about each other Thursday when Holtz was officially hired to replace Leavitt.
“I have great respect for Jim and what he has done for that program and the way he has built it to this point,’’ Holtz said.
Meanwhile, in a statement released through his attorney, Leavitt said:
“Skip Holtz is an old friend, wonderful person and a great football coach.’’
