Holtz addresses Daniels injury

Prior to the start of Tuesday’s evening practice, USF coach Skip Holtz addressed the left hamstring injury starting quarterback B.J. Daniels suffered during practice the that morning at the Vero Beach Sports Village.

“His hamstring’s been sore for about the last couple of days, kind of been nursing it, getting a lot of treatment with it, and he just really felt it kind of tighten up and knot up,” Holtz said. “He didn’t pull it, it’s not severe or anything like that. He’s going to be a little bit limited for a couple of days. We’re going to work on trying to get that knot out of there a little bit, but there’s no deficit, there’s no tear in it or anything else. He should be fine.”

Daniels watched from the sidelines as the Bulls conducted a two-hour practice under the lights at Holman Stadium, which wrapped up the first of two scheduled two-a-days during camp, and he’s not likely to participate in team drills for a few days b ut could do some throwing on the side.

“He will probably be able to do a little bit of limited throwing and everything,” Holtz said. “This doesn’t affect his arm and what he’s doing with that, but he won’t take any team work or anything like that for about two days, and then we’ll turn and evaluate it from there. But I would expect it to be just a couple-of-days deal and then he’ll be back and he should be fine.”

CAMP ROSTER FILLED: USF filled the remaining spot on its 105-man camp roster with the addition of walk-on running back J.J. Peterson, who was with the team in the spring. Defensive back Trevon Griffin, a transfer from Navy who joined the program as a walk-on, was with the team for Tuesday morning’s practice.

Peterson and Griffin replaced defensive end Brandon Wilkinson and running back Dontae Aycock, both of whom Holtz said Sunday had left the program.
