Hockey not a real sport?

Posted Oct 8, 2008 by Erik Erlendsson

Now I’m not exactly sure who Milt Stegall is, but I hear he’s a pretty accomplished player in the Canadian Football League, former MVP, all-time touchdown leader. But after seeing the video below, somehow I think plenty of hockey fans are going to know who this guy is pretty quickly. And I’ll just say this about Stegall, doesn’t he play in the CFL? Is that a real football league? And somehow, I think I’d actually pay pay-per-view money to see Stegall take on Derek Boogard or George Laracques in a fight.
Enjoy!

Better yet let Zdeno Charra take slap shots at him.

From Wikipedia: “Stegall signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals. He played 21 games over 3 seasons, where he had four receptions for 43 yards and one touchdown. He was primarily played as a kick returner though, where he totaled 446 yards off of 26 kickoffs and made five tackles on special teams. In the 1995 season, he was signed as a free agent of the Green Bay Packers, but was a late cut.”
Now he plays for Winnipeg in CFL where he is apparently the Jerry Rice of CFL…..yawn! That’s like being the greatest minor league football player of all time. Has ANYONE in the US heard of him??

Hey Erik, I bet “figure skater”  Jordan Tootoo would give him all he could handle!!!

Hey people, just put him on skates and we can all laugh at his lack of athleticism.  The typical hockey player has a body fat content of 6-10%, and that’s way less than football players who have their tummies flapping over their belt buckles as they jog down the field.

Now, if you want a real non-sport, let’s try boxing, where the objective is to give your opponent a concusion.  That’s brutal, not violent.  There’s a big difference.

I wouldn’t say he’s the Jerry Rice of the CFL, but maybe the T.O. of the CFL. All mouth and no brains. I bet even the likes of Roy or Dingman could take him.

There is a Canadian Football League? Buddy seriously, get over yourself. To say that in Canada is like coming to America and say baseball is not a real sport.

This guy is just looking for press to get his name out there and you obliged him Erik! Maybe the Canadians will boot him out of their country. What is his name? I never heard of him!

So…what the heck is the CFL anyway?  Oh, a Canadian football league…eh?  He can talk all he wants, but he ‘plays’ a sport where the action only takes up about 1/2 of the actual game clock.  And on top of that…he can’t even make it in the REAL football league-NFL.  Tell what’s his name:  buh-bye!!
Canadians:  Don’t kick his butt to us, we don’t want him!!!

OMG. First, the Canadian government needs to confiscate his passport (sure don’t want him in the USA).

Next, let the citizens of Winnipeg take care of this loser. How he intends to get food,or any goods and services after a comment like that is beyond me!!!

Finally, I agree with Erik. I’d pay good money to see him try and last a round with Boogard or Laracques!!!

Typical “gangsta” mentality!!! Hell. I’m 58 years old, and I’ll fight him.  Maybe he’ll bring a gun to the fight!Hope the hockey fans in Canada give him some grief for his disrespect. Maybe he should just take a hit from the puck at game speed to see how long he goes on “IR”! Bet if he took a puck in the face he wouldn’t be able to take stitches in the locker room and come back and play. Turf toe, hang nails bruised thighs equal injured reserve for football clowns!

Mario,

You are so right about the ability of football players/hockey players to play with injuries.  I played for over 20 years and had a hip pointer for almost all of those years.  The net result is two artificial hips, but I never missed a game.

I remember Bobby Baun (Toronto) playing an entire Stanley Cup final series with a broken ankle.  Try walking on a broken ankle (I did for a week before I finally gave in and admitted that it might be more than sprained), much less skate, or even play hockey at Stanley Cup Final level when the teams and the games were a lot tougher than they could ever be dreamed of these days.

Just a guess, but I’m thinking this video is a first class example of the Canadian art of IRONY!  His tongue was so far in his cheek, I’m surprized we could understand what he was saying!

My son has experienced this kind of negativity towards hockey at school.  Kids thinking that because he doesn’t play baseball or football, he can’t be athletic.  He has invited them to come watch him play hockey (he plays both roller and ice) and everyone of these kids has admitted afterward that they couldn’t do what he does.  They realized the endurance you need to play hockey is far above what you need to play football or baseball.  I am not putting down football or baseball here as they are both tough sports, but hockey is a sport and I wish more people realized it.

Thanks for all those people who disrespected the CFL. True Americas at the best right there.

It is funny though, how you Americans are so pissed off about how he hates Hockey. Don’t Americans hate hockey to? And this is from a Tampa Bay area news paper. I guess, no real sports are played in Tampa huh?
