Nick Clark scored four goals, including a pair 20 seconds apart in the third period, as Newsome Blue rallied to a 4-3 victory against Jesuit in the Lightning Hockey Conference Central Division at the Brandon Ice Sports Forum on Saturday night.
Jesuit had taken a 3-2 lead with 33 seconds to play in the second period as Zack White added a goal to his earlier assist, but a pair of penalties by the Tigers midway through the third period set up a 5-on-3 powerplay for the Wolves. Clark took advantage of both, scoring on a solo effort with a two-man advantage before being assited by Conrad Crawford and Spencer Roth to give the Wolves the lead. The goal was Clark’s 28th on the season, putting him tied with Chase Anderson of Manatee.
Wolves captain Crawford said the victory was an important one, as it kept the Wolves in touch with still undefeated Manatee in the league standings.
“We got lucky, really lucky,” Crawford said. “We’ve worked on (our powerplay) in practice, and that’s what helped us the most in this game.”
Wharton also stayed in contention with a 9-0 victory against Newsome White, Matt Cazes scoring a hat trick for the Wildcats, while Bloomingdale goaltender Evan White recorded a shutout and Michael Dougherty scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory against Plant in other action.
Everyone still looks up at the aforementioned Manatee, though, who remain two games ahead in the loss column of the rest of the division after a 6-1 win against Sarasota earlier in the week.
