USF senior center Chaz Hine came up short of winning the 2011 William V. Campbell Award on Tuesday night, which went to Army linebacker Andrew Rodriguez.
Hine was a finalist for the award, given by the National Football Foundation, which recognizes combined success in academic, athletics and community leadership. Past winners include Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow.
Hine is USF’s first NFF Scholar-Athlete. He graduated with a degree in business management in the spring and is enrolled in a Masters program in the School of Business.
He is a two-time All-Big East Academic honoree. Hine was also named “Most Remarkable” of the USF business college.
Hine also was a finalist for the Wuerffel Trophy, another award for athletics, academics and community service, which went to Alabama offensive lineman Barrett Jones.
